I've just been beating myself thinking of his name. The guy was a skinny small white guy, and in his music video (forget the name) he is wearing a suit (not black) and wearing sunglasses and he has a very deep voice, and without looking at him you would think he were black. Anybody remember this guy and his name?

R&B type I suppose. Sounds kind of like the New Order Bizzare love triangle type singing. But it's not them =)

When I read your question, I immediately thought of this English singer Rick Astley coz when I first heard some of his songs I honestly thought he was black. What a surprise I got when I saw his real picture!

Don't know if you're referring to this guy or not but just thought I'd share. :)

Definitely Rick Astley . He's a geeky guy with fair skin and reddish hair.
It was around 1987 when he sang "Never Gonna Give You up". Many assumed he was a black man when it aired on the radio.
