So, here is my situation....

I am currently in the Hotel/ Hospitality Industry. I have 2 years of experience. I just applied online for an Assistant Front Office Manager position and I was called for a phone interview by the director of Human Resources by this hotel. To tell you the truth, the lady was not very nice and DID NOT sound very happy with my answers at all. Still, she called me to schedule an interview for tomorrow morning with the Front Office Manager that I will be working with. Would they schedule an appointment for me if I didn't even have a chance? I just feel like there is no way I could get this job because in the requirements it states some things that I don't have. What are your thoughts? Any advice? Please only NICE answers need apply.

it doest hurt to try! i doubt they would call you for a second interview if they KNEW that they wouldnt hire you, its like they say: time is money (its too valuable to be wasted). so i say go for it! be confident and go kick some butt! you've got nothing to lose! go out there and have fun with it, and if u dont get the job, then dont sweat it, theres probablly something better out there waiting for you...it just takes patience! and remember, everything happens for a reason! dont forget to smile! good luck!

Some job requirement qualifications are overstated to discourage candidates who do not have self-confidence and/ or some experience in the profession/ industry. If you have 2 years experience, a good record - attendance, performance, initiative, etc. - and "fit", the intangible of getting along with the people you will be working with, and for, then you have a good chance at getting the job.

Approach the interview with the Front Office Manager as you did when you first got the job at the hotel. Good luck.

I think you need self confidence. Don't ever under estimate yourself. You have just as good a chance as any one else to get this job. Sometimes people just have that tone in their voice that makes them sound unhappy. You might be reading too much into it. I think you will do fine. No, I do not think they would call you for a second interview if you did not have potential. Good Luck.
