Clean the house, cook dinner for her, and give her some free time to read or relax.

Turning 40 is a major milestone for many women. It should be all about pampering her and NOTHING to do with getting her hair done, appliances or dishes. No make overs or anything to make her think she isn't perfect, just the way she is! It's all about making HER feel special.

Being on a budget shouldn't present a problem but I wouldn't make it an issue that SHE should know!

Step 1: If she works then "hand deliver" some flowers. Very afordable from a local Kroger, (don't use a florist). Pick up a vase at Wal Mart. Her co-workers will envey her and she will think you are Prince Charming! If she doesn't work then maybe use YOUR lunch hour to stop home with flowers. Either way, attach a note/poem or verse (if you are that sort) then leave her with a kiss...

Sample of the note: These flowers are just the beginning..........
Sample of a poem: With every breath I take,
your essence abound.
These flowers never forsake
they hold the love we have found.

Give her a Happy Birthday phone call later that day. Tell her that you were just thinking of when you first met? Then ask her out on a date! (If possible take her to the place of your first date)

Step 2: do the whole dinner/date thing. Or if YOU can cook then make her dinner.

Step 3: the gift! Jewlery is a girls best friend! Actually "diamonds" are but still on a budget here......many stores have very affordable pieces from $30 to $90 that would be appropreiate for a 40th birthday. Charm braclets, (that can be added to) single jewled rings, birthstone rings, sweetheart rings.

Obviously you have a computer so make a coupon book for her:
One free body massage, for her comfort ONLY.
One free "Do anything I ask"
add whatever you know would please HER.

Make her gift. Make her card.

You know her best so what would make her happy and feel wonderful?

Step 4: At the end of the night snuggle with a movie.......
"40 year Old Virgin"
make some drinks (something girly, Fuzzy Navel, Slow Gin
Fizz) make some popcorn, have some slow soft sex.

Make her feel as special as she is.................

I can surely idenify with you, being on a budget, it does suck, but being a woman of the 40's, I suggest getting a very nice card that touches the heart, some pretty flowers, simple ones like from Krogers or Walmart, then surprise her with some lit candles around the house, and cook her dinner. And just spend some time alone making her feel REAL SPECIAL, tell her how much you love and appreciate her, if not any of this go for a long drive together, and talk about how you first met , all the good times.

Cook her a nice dinner at home, run a bubble bath for her, tell her how much you love and appreciate her, if you can buy flowers and a bottle of her favorite wine (if she likes that) if not wine, her favorite drink, rent her favorite movie, if there are kids at home, arrange for a sitter so the two of you can be alone, spoil her in any way you can, brush her hair, give her a massage or foot rub, put out pictures of the two of you from when you met up to today and talk about your memories together, if you are home before her, greet her at the door, dressed up in something spiffy just for her...these ideas are all of course if you are the sappy, lovey dovey type as I am?!?!?! Good luck and I hope it all goes well for you both (especially her - it is her day after all!!)

Put her on a romantic treasure hunt. Purchae some wine. When she comeis in the door have a little gift( earings, necklace ect) by the wine glass. Inside make a riddle like : 'the next place to look is really cold and icy' then she will find maybe a homemade peom from you, or perhaps a card n the icebox! with clue #3 'look into a rectangle that has something that goes with shoes' Of course she would know its your sock drawer, put a little something in there. Then for your last one, make it good an put tickets to a comedy club in the dog food or something. It is fun and creative, funny too!

Spend some time with her. Make her a CD with songs that remind you of her, be home when she gets in and have a trail of herseys kisses to the bathroom with a dozen of her favorite flowers near the shower with a note that says now that I have kissed the ground you walk on and showered you with roses
will you(fill in the rest) enjoy a night out with me, love me forever,
or anything you like. Fix her a special dinner(or pick up KFC) and have dinner where you first saw her. She will always remember her 40th then.

what a joy to see this question on Yahoo answers. you could get dressed in your fall-winter wear and go for a walk together. when you come back all cooled off, your wife can hang out in the kitchen with you while you cook up a nice birthday dish. Put some nice music on playing quietly while you both dine and dance in the livingroom together. Turn the volume up just a bit. Have fun!

here is what a friend did and every woman i have told about it say "wow that is so romantic". If you have a portable dvd player or laptop you can play dvd-s on go to local vid store and get a love story or some other romantic movie your wife will enjoy next take the movie and a bottle of wine and your wife to the beach lookout or other scenic area and treat her to a movie wine and a beautiful sunset.

I am a 45 yr old woman and believe me the best way to go is romance...it doesn't have to be roses...there are cheaper and just as beautiful flowers, but if you insist on roses you don't have to but a dozen..a beautiful dinner with candlelight and music..salad and lasagna are easy to make..then a dance and a wonderful night of lovemaking would probably leave her breathless...there are bubblebaths with candlelight before bed too..if you need a good music choice it depends on what type of music she likes, but R & B love songs are a good choice and if she likes country look for some older clint black ...anymore help just ask...

Bury a bottle of bubbly or wine in a snow bank or a cool stream. Then later when the birthday time comes go for a ride dig up the bottle and find a nice warm spot to enjoy it.

Suprise Party at home.

You can buy loads of party food, cheaply, at Iceland.

Get her best friend or a family member, to take her out for a few hours so you can prepare baloons, and such like.

If you have family and friends close by, get every-one to help out, perhaps bring food and a bottle.

She will be thrilled, especially as if money is tight, she won't even dream, you are going to do anything so big.

Good luck and tell her, life begins at 40 - will it did for me.
