Humans want answers and explanations to life's complexities. Reality is often hard to understand, or unknowable, so we accept far fetched and "crazy" notions because they are easy to accept or understand, and if not questioned too much will give us "answers" when reality often gives us more questions to keep us up at night.

Isn't it nicer to think that a fat jolly man leaves us gifts under the tree than to realize that mom had to slug a woman in Wal Mart for that Tickle Me Elmo?

I guess I would have to say because they want to feel useful, for their esteem and the feeling that they might truly somehow help people in their own way.

I'm pretty good at seeing both sides and I really think this lady might think because water is used in therapy situations, water relaxes and feels good, that maybe she can use it in some fashion to help people relax.

Not only that some people will try anything, they might be the dare devils or the people who are ill and looking for anything to help them. Plus remember it can be mind over matter, if they think it can help them, maybe they can feel better.

Well they are raised on religion, and that is the rejection of science in favor of "faith", and these other things are just other faiths, so it shouldnt be suprising that many people believe in that stuff. There is just as much evidence for phychics as there is for the divinity of jesus or the existance of god.
