I hope everyone knows they do vote. They use absentee ballots.
Many troops support Bush and Rumsfeld, and many are fed up with them.
If they vote democratic, they will be pulled out of Iraq sooner, though. If they vote republican, they will be there for quite a while longer.
Considering this, who do you believe more troops will vote for with their absentee ballots?

Most, in my openion will go with the Dem's for sure because they are tired and ready to come home to their waiting(scared for their lives) families. They have a better chance of coming home sooner especially since the GOP plans to keep them there past 2010. My money goes toward the Dem's, i think they will vote for them so they can come back to "HOME SWEET HOME"!!!

This is a congressional race coming up not a presidental race. Troops that have been deployed for a long time think foremost about home and home issues. The exception being the Presidential race.
The troops in Iraq will vote as they would have if they were state side. But that observation goes out the window in a Presidental race. In the last 40 years the Troops have voted heavily Republican in Presidental races.
As to which party will bring them home the soonest that will not even be a factor based on prior elections. In 1968 and 1972 the Troops voted HEAVILY Republican although the Democrats were promising to bring them home much earlier. The troops will vote for the people who support their home issues and for the party who they view as supporting them. Leaving Iraq earlier or later will not be a factor at all but support of the troops and support of their home grown values will be

republicans, because a lot of them still believe in the cause they're fighting for. everybody's making such a big deal about how we should hurry up and get the troops home, but if we leave a mess in Iraq, they could have another dictator rise up and threaten us (or their neighbors could take them over and become a greater threat to us). i'm all for bringing the troops home, but we can't leave Iraq a big mess...it's too dangerous.

Most will vote republican because all they hear on talk radio is right wing republican rhetoric. A few that are not fooled will vote Democratic. I hope that is enough, and I hope it is a fair count.

Jen gets it. This is an all-volunteer force. They are pros and have better understanding of the importance of their mission than many give them credit for. I'll take a "dumb" grunt's opinion over a "smart" journalist's punditry any day.

The majority want to finish the job they began . They do not want to cut and run . Any soldier who heard John Kerry call them all stupid and uneducated , would find it hard to vote democrat -as Kerry represents his party as a front-runner . They will vote Republican .

I think they'll look at the totality of issues affecting them. Not just the war but what's going on in their home state / town.

Why do you think the Democrats, lead by that buttplug Hanoi John Kerry, tried to get so many of the military absentee ballots disqualified last time around. Do you not remember that? It's because the military tends to vote Republican by about 70%
Hanoi John and his merry men (I said merry, not gay) tried like heck to get a lot of the ballots dumped for really minor reasons but, thank God, they were unsuccessful.

I have been wondering about this and I can't get a feeling one way or another, a lot of them want to resume their lives as long as they still have it and that will be a factor!

I know several active duty personell in Iraq.
They tell me they are voting Republican.
They may not always agree with what is being done; but they know what will happen if the Dems get into power.
Having seen what the situation is there, they would rather be there defending us than being stationed at airports and train stations at home waiting for the next attack.
