I'm doing a science experiment where I'm suppose to figure out if more weight increases velocity. My first question is-is velocity the same the same thing as speed? Second question-If the formula for velocity is V=Vo+at how would i measure acceleration and what is initial velocity? EX.-So, if a rolled a skateboard down a hill and it was going 5mph would that be my initial velocity,initial velocity or or acceleration?

Velocity is the speed an object is moving at and the direction that it is moving in. For example, if you said that a car was going 60 mph due east you would be talking about velocity; if you merely said that the car was moving 60 mph you would just be talking about its speed. You would measure acceleration by measuring an objects speed at two different times (the closer the more accurate your number estimate), subtract the difference and divide by the time interval. For example, if at time=1, the speed of an object was 5 meters per second, and at time=4 the speed was 14 meters per second you would do the following: (14-5)/(4-1)=9/3=3 meters/sec^2.
Regarding your last question, if the skateboard was going 5mph when you started your experiment, then your initial speed would b 5mph.

Velocity is the rate at which an object changes position and Speed is how fast an object is moving.
How to measure acceleration can be found here...along with some other good ideas for science projects!!

velocity is different from speed.it is rate of change of displacement. speed = distance travelled /time
v=final velocity
v0=initial velocity
if the body is startng from rest its initial velocity is zero.
If the body is already having some velocity and then coming to rest final velocity is zero and initial velocity is the velocity it is already having
initial velocity is 5mph because it is coming to rest at down the hill.
0=5+at

Wow! This is like the time we tied Farmer Brown's pig to our wagon, and shoved it down the hill! When it hit the bottom, one wheel got bent, the stick of dynamite we had hooked to the handle exploded, and we had a mighty sick pig on our hands for a while!

We were doing the experiment to figure out in the real life all those figures, but, we kinda got caught up in the moment, and didn't take notes... so, we couldn't help you too much.

If you are watching for a "school-degree" test, I'd say the simplest on might be the presentation of the Law of Diffusion by way of striking Potassium Permanganate on a petri dish due to the fact this regulation applies on each detail on technology. Whether it's biology or normal technology. Or in the event you desire to contain the "eminent chance" on defense within the nation, you would check out displaying how useful it's for individuals to create residence-made explosives and different instruments making use of usual loved ones ingredients.
