Ok I got an industrial piercing (2 cartilage piercings connected thru a bar for those of you who dont know) on 9/30. Getting it pierced did hurt but was not unbearable (getting one at least-if get 2 at a time then second one will hurt more) and it only hurts as she's piercing you and then its over. Afterwards for the rest of the night my ear was hot and it throbbed but was in no way unbearable. The next day I couldnt even feel it was there unless it got bumped. It would hurt quite a bit when it did get bumped-mainly when I tried to change my clothes. After 3 weeks now the swelling has gone down and when my piercing gets bumped it hardly hurts at all compared to how it did. I still cannot sleep on it and that gets annoying some times and you should not ever talk on the phone on that side. The main thing to remember about cartilage piercings is that you should never touch it unless cleaning it (with freshly cleaned hands) and never let anything but your hair touch the piercing. Otherwise you are chancing infection.
From what I've learned cartilage piercing are somewhat high on the pain level but not as bad as maybe tongue, tragus, or any of the more mature piercings. Also the pain depends on what kind of cartilage piercing you get. If its just the usual hoop in your upper ear thats not as bad as some of the other areas.

If you mean the upper ear cartlidge, I have one and it wasn't that bad. The worse was the belly button. The only issue I had with the cartlidge was that I sleep on that side. But its cute and isn't so bad.
Unless you are talking about that little piece sticking from the face into the ear... I cant remember what that is called but I heard that kills and has one of the highest infection rates and longest healing time.

Well, as you already know this is a very painful piercing. Unlike the... jiggly part of your ear :) this is much thicker. I don't have experience but my friend does. She got her cariledge pierced and whenever someone got close she would get very parinoid. So, yes it is painful and the cartiledge has more nerves the the jiggly part. If this doesn't help too much im sorry.

YES! It's very true. I wound up taking mine out because after about a week, it still hurt bad. I cleaned it all the time and it was not infected, just very sore, so sore I couldn't sleep and if I did fall asleep I would wake up as soon as I rolled over on top of it. DON'T DO IT MAN!!!!!

It's not that bad, I have three of them. I got two done at once. It's like getting a bee sting. The take a gun with the ring in it and they mark your ear, then they shoot it. It's a simple procedure and it's quick. Make sure you keep it clean, though because if it gets infected and puss filled then that will not be a fun ordeal.

It doesnt hurt. Just sleeping on it, or talking on the phone is uncomfortable for a few days. This is a rumor. Just sleep / talk on the other phone on the non-peirced ear. Good luck.

I had mine done twice (I done it myself both times) It was VERY sore for a long time. I couldn't sleep on that side of my head or anything so I ended up taking them out both times. Maybe I went wrong by doing it myself???? LOL
