I have seen factories close factories in the USA just to save 10 cents to make a jacket, outsourcing to China or Mexico, I have also seen the traffic in the streets increasing because suppliers have to transport the imported water, the imported clothes, the imported electronics. Aren't we capable enough of producing more and only importing the necessary? Yes, a lot of people benefit from imports but is only 1%, the rest have to pay extra to bring it here, then get stuck on traffic 2 hours a day because "it" has to be delivered to someone who much rather to kick out every cheap immigrant who can make things here, spend at least some money in rent, food and other basic things, money which will stay here no matter what. One way or another there must be a balance here, we must think about why we must drink water from the French Alps instead of local water, that has nothing to do with hating every immigrant, as if we are not all immigrants in some way. Balance Imports, Keep American Goods and Work in America.

There is a book called "The World is Flat", by Thomas L. Friedman where he discussed how in 1989 the U.S. started outsourcing work to other countries because it was cheaper for Corporations, due to the internet. It seems this has become the American way, the rich save a lot of money. If people in the U.S. loose jobs, oh well. We don't run things, we're just the people (the worker ants). And we only heard a big deal about illegal immigration, in my opinion, when the heat got too hot, on what the truth was, as to why Bush really decided to go into Iraq, and his poll ratings dropped so badly, and he needed to bring up his ratings. Just my opinion.

essentially immigrants and uncontrolled imports are the same that is illegal immigrants. They are not controlled and compete with Americans for jobs therefore lowering the wages much like lowered prices on goods manufactured in places such as China. It is the same a great reduction for employers on labor cost

The biggest problem may be that we produce very little in the U.S. compared to years past, except services. When other nations learn to supply services for themselves that we export, as is happening rapidly with China and India, what do we have to trade?
We can't all go live on Bush's little country in Paraguay.

We need imports in America because we are a free economy and we want the best of everything. Toyotas are much better than fords, Hondas are better than Chevy and everyone knows it.
Immigrants are what's making this country great because they work hard, they doin't have a sense of entitlement and contribute to the economy.
THe problem with this country is that people take all this stuff for granted. They should be pushing themselves to make America great again. We should be number in education, number in technology, Zero in infant mortality etc. etc. and it's time for that to change!

No it wouldn't be cheaper.
The global economy is the best thing for everyone. Viva capitalism!
Study some economics, you sound very ignorant (...to me).
Immigrants are helping us too. If anything, you should have a problem with outsourcing, but even that is beneficial for everyone.

good question... however the unions have outpriced the american worker and we cannot afford to pay the price of the products they make. if we stopped the imports especially from China, we would be in trouble economically. we have now shot ourselves in the foot with that.. i would say the safest change to make is stop the illegal immigrant situation. as they send all of the money back to mexico and the do not pay taxes and we pay for them in our schools, hospitals and welfare...

Neither. The two things impacting our economy are rampant speculation by hedge funds and a continual resistence by the federal government to reduce spending.

Who cares which is worse. We need to get rid of both before we wind up a third world two class society.
