Wow there are so many...
Standing on a Beach (The Singles) by The Cure is a fantastic cd - almost every song on it is awesome.
Stop Making Sense by Talking Heads is another awesome album - it has the original 'Burning Down the House' which Tom Jones and the Cardigans absolutely destroyed a few years ago...
Blue Monday by New Order
Cars - Gary Numan
Epic - Faith No More often thought to be one of the greatest rock songs ever
Substance by Joy Division is a great album
The Smiths - check out a 'best of' cd, they did the original of the Charmed theme song, but it was actually good.
Tears for Fears - not really rock or techno but still awesome
INXS - check out the greatest hits almost all their best songs except 'Just Keep Walking' is missing and that is an awesome song
For some odd techno type stuff have a listen to Hundreds and Thousands by The Bronski Beat - the guy's voice takes a bit of getting used to, he can sing as high as a male can possibly sing without being a castrata (having no testicles) and it's quite beautiful but probably not to everyone's taste.
Under the Milky Way Tonight by The Church, probably their best song in my opinion
I can't think of any others but that list is pretty fab.

Sure, all the above were great, but what about the gals? Pat Benetar (Hit me with your best shot), Heart (Barracuda), Cindy Lauper (Girls Just want to have Fun), Nina (99 Luft Ballons), and Madonna--the early years (Lucky Star and Material Girl)? This was the decade of the female artest!
