i know many girls that have been on it since they were 16 or 17 and are now in their mid 20's. might want to take a few months off now and then if you can. but then again there is no real proof that will do much, just makes some people feel better about it. the only thing that might happen is when you do go off it to have a child some day (if you decide to) it might take a few months for your body to start ovulating again (3 months or so). the pill has also been shown to help protect again certain things like uterine cancer. but as the previous poster mentioned as long as you have no health problems. if you smoke or have blood clots in the family or serious other health problems (women with breast cancer in your family), you really need to let your health care provider know about these things and discuss it with them.

It's safe. It has side effects obviously but, you know this. Long term use doesn't make these side effects worse. Using the pill reduces your chances of uterine and ovarian cancers but, can increase your risks for breast cancer but, usually it's not by much. Just do your self examinations and check for lumps.
It doesn't make sense to say that the pill causes urinary tract infections at all. UTI's are caused by bacteria getting into your urinary tract or bladder and spreading! It can happen during sex but, not because of estrogen. Besides, I got them before going on the pill. Usually weight gain is blamed on the pill but, as we get older and usually at the begining and end of puberty when women start the pill, there is weight gain. Everyone gets this whether or not they are on the pill!

Birth control pill use.
The effect of using birth control pills on a woman’s subsequent
menopausal period is in large measure an unstudied phenomenon,
but birth control pills – which work by suppressing your native
hormones, can themselves lead to many health problems. Many of the
problems of estrogen dominance, including fluid retention,
depression, headaches, and urinary tract infections, are experienced
by women using birth control pills. Everything we’ve said about the
negative effects for menopausal women of using progestins applies to
the progestins used in birth control pills. Having altered your
normal hormonal cycles when using the Pill, you are more prone to
symptoms at midlife as well as potentially more serious health problems.
This is because the synthetic estrogens and progestins used in the
Pill can interfere with the body’s own progesterone receptors. The
progestins are more potent and may inhibit the product of your body’s
own sex hormones.

Shouldn't have any. The only thing I've heard (negatively) about being on the pill a long time is that sometimes, and only sometimes, it can prolong conception. Some pills prove to help protect against cancer!

You should be just fine. I am nearly 30 and many of my friends over thirty remained on the pill until they were ready to have children. Consult your doctor if you have more concerns, but I wouldn't be too worried if I were you. I would assume you are getting regular check ups, I would think your doctor would mention it to you if there could be a potential problem.

I've heard being on the same birtrh control pill can sometimes create bacterial viruses. It might be a good idea to switch brands every few years. Ask your doctor next time you see him.

It's totally safe! I've also heard that they are finding that using the pill for as long as you have is a way of saving your eggs for later.

Yes, it's safe as long as you don't have any health conditions (like heart disease) and don't smoke.
