Isuppose its possible .Scientists believe there was liquid water on mars and that its atmosphere was slightly more hospitable long ago. If and when we do send humans to Mars im sure this will be one of the first things they try to figure out.As of now we have not been able to detect any ruins or traces of an advanced civilization. But we havent got to look around much yet.

sure, there are some people that believe that.

There is no good reason for believing it, since it is so inhospitable no life could survive there out in the open, in the elements (we could, if we build a space station there (like in the movie "total recall", but it would have to be completely enclosed or no life could survive or live there). .

it's like being in outer space, nothing can live out there, except inside a spaceship. Likewise, the surface of Mars.

Yes, but then I was raised with the science fiction stories of Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke and Isaac Asimov.

Why not? Why do people on this planet always assume that we are the only planet with "intelligent" life? That sounds so arrogant to me.

Some people say that another, ancient planet, Marduk, crashed into Mars, umpteen thousand years ago, and ceased life there, but formed the asteroid belt, and sent primitive life to earth.
