A good friend of mine is an opera singer. She avoids dairy - especially cheese and milk, wheat products, alcohol, anywhere near smoke, and she covers her neck with a scarf all the time to protect her throat, especially in the winter.

To help clear your voice, take room temperature water, and place a lemon in (remove any seeds as it will make it bitter), this will help you have clearer voice (an old trick the night before you head to an interview) as you will not be clearing your voice.

Hope it works out!

Using more air has always helped me. Avoiding lifting the pallate or dropping the jaw will open up your throat and allow for a more natural tone.
If those two things are how you are taught to sing, I'd say just focus on using more air to support the tone in the upper register of your voice :)

Try some hot tea before singing and if you really want a clear strong voice make a tea by steeping sage leafs and drink it prior to singing. Use the same amount of sage leafs as you would tea leafs in tea. In a pinch you can just put a piece of sage in your mouth and suck on it prior to singing too. Works wonders!
