Hello. I'm looking for information on the Haymarket Square Riot. I've been reading things on the websites I look at, but none of them state just how long the riot lasted. Please help me.

At around 10.30pm, on May 4 1886 police decided to disperse what was until then a peaceful rally.

A bomb was thrown, killing a police officer. Police allegedly began firing into the crowd. The ensuing riot, which saw 60 police and an unknown number of civilians killed or injured, lasted only a few minutes.

A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn has an excellent analysis of this event (as well as many other eye-openers). You can pick up a copy at Amazon for less than $5.

Less than an hour I think. It was a very intense but brief riot between cops and strikers.
