All the motivation I have had left dissapeared over the years. Even when I want to do something I don't do it. You can call me lazy but nobody has ever called me lazy before. Whenever I'm asked to do a task I perform it effciently. When I want to do something for my own benefit, I don't do it.

For example, I study but I don't study to my potential. I used to be an honors student with an A average in middle school but now as a high school senior, I'm an average student. So average that I don't have a distinguishing characteristic colleges would consider me taking me in for.

I think this has something to do with kids and even an adult calling me retarded, insane and psycho. They said such things because I used to be in Special Ed. I eventually believed my future was going to be in a mental hospital and gave up trying.

I also want to do is learn an instrument, exercise, get my driver's permit, write a novel, learn to draw and possibly more.

How do I get my motivation back?

I think if you think about it, you already answered your own question. You said you want to learn an instrument. Do it! It's obvious your smart. You had a A average in middle school. I bet your really the same great person and you'll be able to prove it with that instrument. People say mean things sometimes against someone else to make them feel like their better, when in facr their not. If they were so smart, they wouldn't have said it in the first place. Keep trying, don't ever give up, and college isn't anything like the lower grades. You CAN learn that instrument, excercise, get your driver's permit, write a novel, learn to draw and anything else you want, if you put your mind to it. So get started!

Maybe you're trying to focus on motivating yourself to do the wrong things. You have to truly want something to get motivated to achieve it. Maybe in the back of your mind the things you're trying to motivate yourself to do aren't all that important to you. Take an honest look at what's important to you. Once you've chosen the things that are most important, you need to come up with a plan to help you avoid being overwhelmed. Try to give yourself a reasonable amount of time to achieve your goals while at the same time pushing yourself. If you give yourself too long, it'll be easy to procrastinate. Once you have a time frame in mind for achieving what you wish, break your goal into smaller pieces and also set mental deadlines for reaching each part of the goal. Now you have a time line; don't stop there! Plan how you're going to reach each step and allow yourself to get excited about the journey, make it as fun as you can by involving friends, planning rewards and find ways to inspire yourself along the way. Once you begin to see progress, you can use that as motivation to achieve more.

You must do it for yourself, and no one else!! You must get ahead in this world, because it is harder every day to make a living with just a high school education, a college education is a must today, or you will be living at poverty level which is no fun with the prices of everything rising everyday, and just being able to afford health insurance is getting so bad, we cant even afford to get sick. You cant even count on anyone elses pay check even if you get married, you must be able to stand on your own two feet, and survive for yourself. Find some ting in life you enjoy and that you have a talent for, and get your degree in it, and believe me you will never be sorry, and you will never need to count on anyone else which is a WONDERFUL feeling! Love is great, but you cant count on it to last for ever. If your not motivated today, you get left behind! Take my advice, and good luck!

You need to start out slowly. Do one thing that you would like to do and I'm sure you will feel so good after wards that you will WANT to do more things. Maybe you have a little bit of depression or something so that might be something to look into as well. Depression can make you not want to do things that will make YOU happy. You mentioned that you can do things when you are told to do them and you do them efficiently so you need to start disciplining yourself and giving yourself tasks to do. As I said before, hopefully you will feel really good after doing something for yourself and that will motivate you to keep doing things. Good Luck! :)

Learning music and exercising is the easiest you can do on your own, maybe you can start by buying an instrument and learning it?
