art is different things to different people. Maplethorpe, Warhol. Grandma Moses, and Picasso can all hang in one art museum and be admired by all who come in. Graffitti can be either hated or admired, depending on who's eyes are looking at it. Refridgerator art is no less than that of the masters themselves in the eyes of a grandmother.
Art is soul, and blood and life and death and love and hate. It is all the emotions that make up the pieces themselves; and all the emotions that are held within the artist. It can emote laughter, tears, rage, fear, affection, warmth, and loneliness.
It is paint, plaster, wire, garbage, fabric, words and wood. It is the eyes of a child and the failing vision of a visionary. Art is all this and so much more. It is breathing existence.

i hope this answer upsets you as much as it did me, when i was young: i thought that there had to be an answer to what is art. one day the teacher pop this on the class and we were each given three sheets of blank paper to write an answer. as you can guess, they just about to start writing on the backs on the paper when the teachers says okay class pass your paper up Front and you'll get them back tomarrow. well i had enough on the paper to choke a horse, and was proud of all of it, this was eight grade and i was very sensitive about my art. she looked at all the paper and went to the black board and only wrote a small sentence, I'll love her dearly for life but to this day i have no idea who she was, she wrote (Art is a way of life), to this day i live art and since she said it and made me see it i have never turned back and it is just the way she said it is a way of life

art is about human expression. art can be expressed in different ways such as poetry, literature, drawing, sculpting, etc. art is normally used to make us see what the person is trying to tell through their creativity and expression. I hope that it helps, and if you want to know more about art, you can go wikipedia.org, it can explain more in detail. remember that art has no wrong or right answers in human emotions.
