Dents can be removed if not too severe. Can be hammered out from the inside with body working tools, and then "bondo'd with body filler to a smooth finish. For the rust, put a piece of chain in the tank and then some muriatic acid mixed with a bit of water. (damned strong stuff so be careful. Can get it at house paint store or Lowe's for couple of bucks a gallon). Pour that in the tank and slosh the chain and mixture around and then carefully pouring the mixture out and chain, rinse the tank well with water. Put some baking soda in it to neutralize the acid and then at your local motorcycle dealer get some "Kreem" sp elled with a K. It is a milky product that is used to reseal the inside of the tank so that it won't rust again for a long time. Directions on the bottle, but basically you slosh it all around on the inside and then let it dry overnight before using. Works on car tanks too, but usually takes 2-3 bottles. Another solution to cleaning the tank out instead of doing it yourself it to let a radiator shop do it. they have an acid tank that they can soak it in to take out all the rust and crud.

Dents are hard to remove from a bike fuel tank. You can drill small holes and pull the dent out. Then re-weld and smooth the holes. You must be sure all fumes are gone from in the tank.

I've cleaned bike gas tanks by putting several handfuls of pea gravel inside. Shake the tank and the gravel will knock the rust off. It takes a few hours of shaking, dumping, refilling with rocks, shaking.... rinse, lather, repeat until rust is gone. Then flush tank with paint thinner. The problem is that many rusty fuel tanks will leak at the tank seams. There's no really good way to seal the seams once they start leaking. If the tank is really bad, it may be best to replace it.

If you do get the tank fairly clean, be sure to use a good fuel filter. There will still be small bits of junk in the tank that will plug the carbs up.

I once used fine pebles and gasoline in a fuel tank I had and shook the heck out of it for a few hours in different dirrections and that helped clean out the rust. I believe the dents can be taken out at some body shops equipped properly. It's a machine that forces air into it, and sometimes will pop the dents out.

You can do the dents easy with auto bondo. it will come out as good as you are willing to wet sand. as for the rust, get a can of sea foam and slosh it around in there. should do the trick. I'm working on a trike with an old cycle. same deal with the tank. stripped it down completly and bondoed where some misplaced emblem used to be. I just put the primer on and it looks great if i do say so myself.

I've sealed rusted tanks quite a bit over the years. I prefer the KBS brand over others. This kit contains the best tank sealer around.
