The 'less glam life' was very near to her always...she claimed no pretense.....and just before she left to go and marry and become royalty ...I THINK it was Frank Sinatra...or someone very famous..sorry cannot recall who......asked her out, she was playing the piano...and looked up...smiled and said "Thank you but I am getting married".....now does this sound like someone who is full of them self? i do not think so. Prince Rainier actually came to or went to her family's home as i have read and asked for her hand in marriage...as far as a sordid past...i highly doubt it. You can feel as free as a bird to google it and see what you would find, but i believe the lady to have been untarnished.
This is my take....and I grew up on movies and a lot of time in California......

I can say with some degree of authority that "no" Grace Kelly most probably never was a loose or immoral woman.
You see, my mother's aunt, May Coleman, dated Jack Kelly right before he met the woman he married, Margaret Katherine Mejer, back in 1924.
Mother was born in July of 1928 and Grace Kelly was born in November of 1929 so they were contemparies.
My mother's family went to the same Catholic Church as the Kelly's and recalls often walking to church with her mother and father and hearing Jack Kelly call out the window of their Philadelphia apartments the question "Hey, whose pitching today?" inquiring as to which priest was to say the Mass.
Mother still remembers being aboard either the New Amsterdam or The Queen Mary cruisliner (I can't recall which one she said it was) when Grace Kelly made her debut and turning to see her Aunt May beside her go white as a sheet and then become quite quiet when she saw Grace and her father.
Mother's Aunt May never did marry or have any relationship with any man.
Jack Kelly was the only man she ever loved and she died a spinster in the 1950's.
It was a far different time back then, when ethics and morality still were of the utmost importance to people and it was unthinkable to many to ever take a chance and allow theirs or their families names to be dragged in the mud for any reason.
Those that actually lived in that environment and knew that family knew that Grace Kelly was first and foremost a true and gracious lady.
While she may have been unhappy in her marriage, her family and friends knew she always considered her family and children above her own selfish (or less selfish) personal concerns.
Yes, there are many tales out there that arose, mainly after she died and was no longer able to defend herself, that accused her of being loose and immoral but those were usually from those she rebuffed or who just liked to spread vicious rumors about someone they envied because they didn't have her life, wealth or grace.
In pondering your question you would be wise to ask the question to yourself, when hearing an attack on any person's reputation, of just what axe the person talking has to grind against the person they are speaking about.

I can tell you that it is true that she slept around alot....she was known for sleeping with her leading men which included Clark Gable and yes...also Bing Crosby-Bing didn't even want her to be in the movie at first.....but I guessed something clicked...lol....
my mother told me she really did have this reputation....I wouldn't be surprised about the cab drivers though......I really thought this was so not her character.....live and learn!
