I have a good friend whom is breastfeeding her 8 week old baby. She also pumps and leaves a bottle of breastmilk for me to feed her, when she is away. When I keep the baby for the day, she drinks 11 ounces of breastmilk every 3 hours. She also does this if her dad feeds her a bottle. I know that the milk may flow faster from the bottle, but she isnt bothered by this. She keeps up, and lets go long enough to burp every 3 ounces. She is very content. She isnt gassy or fussy at all. So, this is okay, right? Also, she was drinking 4 oz. from a bottle at 1 week, and has basically added an ounce each week from there.

as long as the baby is happy with this, then there's nothing wrong with it.
now, on the other hand, if mom was a freak, and wanted her baby on a strict diet or schedule, then you should take it up with her, not us.

It really depends on the size of the baby and what is recommended for the babies age and weight/size.

Here is a general guideline for figuring out how much your baby should be eating each day.
The average baby takes 2 or 3 ounces of formula each day for every pound of body weight, up to a maximum of 32 ounces. A newborn weighing 7 lbs. will take an average of 14-21 ounces of formula in a day. A 4-month-old weighing 14 pounds needs 28-32 ounces.

Wow! I'm sure it's okay, but wow! My son would barely drink an ounce at a week old! That amazes me! I can't even remember at what age he drank 11 oz. at a time, if he ever did! You may want to have your friend check with her doctor about it, just to make sure the baby doesn't gain weight too fast, but if the baby isn't having any problems, then I don't think it's a big deal. Some babies just have big appetites!

I breastfed both of my children. When you are strictly breastfeeding, you have no idea how much they are getting, in ounces. I think as long as the child seems comfortable after her feedings, this is fine. Mom knows if she is pumping so much for the day that she is constantly increasing her milk supply. Her body will create a thinner milk. The body knows best.
