Stealing is taking something that doesn't belong to you. Do the pens and paper belong to you? No, they belong to the company. So, yes, you are stealing.
Peace.
I just love the answers that say it's stealing but it's OK. The same logic that all criminals use. Everyone can justify their criminal behavior, whether it be stealing a pen, writing a check when you know there are not funds in the bank to larceny and murder. Surprising how many people think it is OK for them but not for others who are condemned and sentenced to jail or even death, but for me, it's OK. I do hope people will remember their own sins the next time they are answering a question like should we bring back hanging, or any death penalty option.
Peace.

By definition, it is stealing.
However, nobody will miss a pack of paper and a pen or two. It's petty theft to say the least, not really worth worrying about.
However, if you're talkng about raiding the cabinets and hauling home crates of paper and whole packs of pens then that is alot more serious. That cuts away from the business's profits, and is most definitely something you could be fired for.

Well, yes it is. That said, if you absent-mindedly stick one pen or pencil in your pocket and it ends up at home, no, I wouldn't consider that stealing. But if you take 6 pens for your kids' school supplies, or a ream of paper to use on your home computer for personal printouts, then yes, definitely.

I have 30 employees in my store and im putting at least 20 pens back on the floor a week, this cost the company money, I know its an oversight to take one home, but maybe bring it back the next shift or take a few extra seconds to thinks about it and put it back every time you use one.

It depends. Was it taken by accident? Was it taken to do work from home or for personal use? It all depends on the motive.
