I would keep it. Not because I wanted it but because they gave it to me.

Gifts are to be kept unless there is some sort of prior understanding concerning a gift that is exceptionally valuable or has high sentimental value to the giver. For example, if a man gave me a piece of jewelry that had belonged to his mother or grandmother, I'd return it without question.

I think if she asks for it back, you might want to just because she didn't "GIVE", it to you after all. Regardless of how extravagant it might be, when you give a gift it should be given in the right spirit.

I'd thank them for the gift but tell them that because of the circumstances I can't keep this. Express your gratitude and all but explain that it would sit better with you if you gave it back.

I would give the parents the option of weather or not they wanted it back. They may be offended if you simply returned the gift but then again they may want it back.

If the gf/bf broke up with you then no I wouldn't return it. However, if you broke it off ; just return it and close the door on that part of your life.

I think that it would make them feel bad if you gave it back. Lots of times parents don't stop liking their kid's boyfriend/girlfriend just because they don't like you! Keep it:)

I would keep it. Unless it was a house hold appliance. It they asked for it back then I would go ahead and give it back.Because the it would be obvious that they bought it on a condition that you stayed with them.
