I would like to either have the restrictor removed or have a modded exhaust installed. Is it possible to do any of this on a 2006 Yamaha Vino, this is a 4 stroke bike. I know it was possible on the 2005 and before models that were 2 stroke. PLEASE HELP

First off, do you live in CA? If not, there are things you can do if you are handy with your tools. Do this slow! What I am recommending can't be undone!

Don't completely remove the muffler insert. If you do, you will run lean and damage the motor. Take the puppy out if you can and start drilling holes in it. Just a few at a time, and keep the same amount in the same place in each one, as best as possible. Put them/it back in, and see what happens.

Don't listen to the noise. Noise is not a perfect indicator of power. A bit of noise means your exhaust is flowing a bit better, though. Now for the fun part. You may need a jet kit to handle this, and have to fiddle with the carb.

See in what RPM range the bike does better. Are you gaining torque? HP? Is it in a range you use often? Do you smell unburnt fuel? Do you have excessive carbon showing in the tailpipe?

If you get more oomph with a few holes, try a few more. Remember, you can't undrill a hole! You will know you are going a bit too far when your idle starts to suck. You are not getting enough backpressure.

If you can find a low restriction air filter on line, get one. Don't go hog wild with the holes until you put on the lower restriction air cleaner. If you are spitting more out the back, you need to be sucking more in through the front!

Just make sure that you are not running lean at the top end, and rich at the bottom. (Bottom end rich mixture lets excess fuel "eat" the oil from the cylinder walls. Lean at the top will make you chunk a cylinder, or burn a piston.)

And now for my closing remarks. (Drum roll please!) There is a reason that bike techs make the money they do. It's not impossible to do it yourself, but you must take baby steps so as not to ruin your bike. I gladly pay my $230 every third month to get my bike serviced. (No, it's not stock, but they work on it anyway.)

Good luck, hope you get the performance you are looking for. Ride safe. Ciao!

I don't think they've come out with aftermarket mods yet for the 4-stroke 50cc Vino (2006+). Provo Scooter is *the* place to check out with respect to aftermarket parts, and they do not yet stock many mods beyond a Malossi shock for the 2006+ 4-stroke model. Sorry for the disappointing news, but keep your eyes peeled...something's gotta come out soon. Usually, aftermarket parts industries lag the model year by months and months when it a big model change rolls down the line.
