Well, first you must make your mixed numver into an improper fraction like 20 over 10, you can do that be multiplying th bottom number of the fraction by the whole number then add that number to ur top number of the fraction. Then put that answer you got from that over ur original bottom number of the fraction part of the mixed number. Then u will have a improper fraction which u can multiple by making a whole number into a improper fraction as well by putting the whole number on top of a 1. Then cancel the numbers and multiply.
I'm Not giving u the answers, just giving example up top:
heres the answer/problem: 17/4 x5/1=85/4 which u reduce by dividing!

First turn the mixed number into an improper fraction:
41/4
Mulitiply the denominator (4) by the base number (4) and add the numberator (1).
17/4 is the result.
Now multiply 17/4 by 5/1
17 5 85
--- X --- = ----
4 1 4
85/4 is your answer!

Okay. do you know how to multiply fractions? The idea is the same. Put 5 over 1. Then convert 4 and 1/4 into 17/4. ( 4x4 =16+1=17 over 4) Then multiply 17/4 by 5/1 and simplify.

You would convert 4 1/4 into an improper fraction which would be 16/4. Then put 5 over 1 so it would be 5/1. Then multiply across so your answer would be 80/4. You would have to turn that into a mixed or whole number so your answer would be 40. We are learning the same thing in my math class. I'm in 7th grade. You must be in either 5-7th grade, too.

you multiply 4 by 5, and then you multiply 1/4 by 5, and you add the answers together. or you convert the mixed number to a top heavy fraction, which in this case would be 17/4, and multiply.

take 4 1/4 and make it an improper fraction (17/4) and multiply it by 5/1
1) numerator (17) x numerator (5) = 85
2) denominator (4) x denominator (1) = 4
3) reduce 85/4 to 21 1/4
4) answer = 21 1/4
hope it helped! :]

you have to change 4 1/4 to 17/4
(4x4+1)
then you have 5 change it to 5/1
so now you have 17/4 x 5/1 = 85/4
take another step to bring it back
21 1/4
