Common plecostomus can reach a length of 24-30".
The best plecos are the ancistrus family. They are usually called bushynosed or bristlenosed plecos because of the protrusions from their noses. They only grow to about 6-7" at the most.
The bushynoses are a much better fish, they are always busy doing clean-up work. The larger common plecos get lazy as they get larger.
