In Greek mythology, Zeus (in Greek: nominative: Ζεύς Zeús, genitive: Διός Díos) is the highest ranking god among the Olympian gods, the ruler of Mount Olympus, and god of the sky and thunder.

His attributes included thunder and the lightning bolt, the scepter, and the eagle. The son of Cronus and Rhea, he was the youngest of his siblings. He was married to Hera, although at the oracle of Dodona his consort was Dione, the "goddess": according to the Iliad, he is the father of Aphrodite by Dione. The picture of Zeus given in the literary mythology has fixed his persona. Accordingly, he is known for his numerous erotic conquests of nymphs, including deities whose cult actually preceded his, and one pederastic relationship, with Ganymede. His trysts resulted in many offspring: Athena by Metis, Apollo and Artemis by Leto, Hermes by Maia, Dionysus by Semele, Perseus by Danae, Heracles by Alcmene, Helen by Leda, Minos by Europa and the Muses by Mnemosyne; By Hera, he sired Ares, Eileithyia, Hebe and Hephaestus.

His Roman counterpart was Jupiter, and his Etruscan counterpart was Tinia.

Zeus or Dias was the King of the twelve gods, but not a father to all of them - to many of them he was a brother, since he saved them from their common father Kronos (Saturn).

Zues, he was responcible for killing his father before him who tried (and succeded) in eating all of Zeus's siblings until Zeus's mother tricked him in to beliveing that a small bundle she held actually contained Zues when it was in reality a rock, Zeus's father instead ate the rock and Zeus was able to kill his father by slashing open his stomach and releaseing all of his siblings.
