People are quoting a mortality rate of 30% (http://www.drgreene.com/21_875.html), but the accuracy of this is doubtful. It will depend on sanitation, general health, treatment, inoculation, and genetics. Some populations seem more vulnerable than others, for reasons not entirely clear. It will also depend on whether the smallpox is the same strain that has occurred in the past.
