Ahhh, that is the question...
I say: To be. I'm more of a doer than a not-doer.

To be is my choice. To be is to exist, to have the challenge of life. To be able to experiment with life and to have different experiences. Life is what you make it. There are many options open to us in the 'to be.' The mind is a powerful thing and we can use it to our advantage. Having a positive mind makes living all the more worthwhile. Your cup is half full not half empty, for example.Take each day as it comes, the past is history and the future will take care of its self. We are a long time dead my friend, so live life to the full. So I would choose to be while I have that choice. Not 'to be' does not leave any other option open to us. Im going to work hard and play hard! Is not what you say its the way that you say it thats important. The people that matter dont mind, and the people that mind dont matter. The sun has got to shine on a dog's ar*e sometime. So I'm going to enjoy the 'to be' and get out there an give it my all!! What ever choice we make, it is our choice; but I know what is the better one for me. I hope you choose 'to be.' Hope you have a happy life, have fun and a positive outlook!

to be; someone willing to put thier pride life on the line in hopes of getting great things out of thier sacrifice. These are the kinds of people who will bet all the money on a single hand.
not to be; thse are the realists, more grounded i think. They have no great ambitions of being an astronaut when they grow up, and figure that when it is them against the world, it is best to bet on the world.
the "to be's" are the ones who end up revolutionizing the world, or atleast a small percent of them. To answer your question, i am a "not to be"...figure even if i am a "to be" the chances of me becoming great are still slim. I'm just not willing to put everything on the line...
O, and im 16, hoped this helped.

I have chosen to be whatever I am at each moment. What I mean is, I try to be true to myself, and use every oportunity to be at the moment, live what life brings. If I chose not to be, I would ge older sooner, and my mind would leave my body without notice. I don't want to become a human vegetable.
By the way, I am particularly fond of that monologue for my father's name was Amleto, which the Italian version of Hamlet, and that tragedy by Shakespeare has something special for me.
I am 57.

it is amusing that you placed "clever ones(sic) under 30, i am assuming that this is referenced to the play by the late, great
William Shakespeare. the quick answer to this is, as was written in a song of the 20th century, if i only knew then what i know now.

It depends upon what the "Be" is, I guess. I think the important part is the choice... we always have options, even if we don't care for them. Sometimes it is the choice between the rock and the hard place that really illuminates a person's character. It's not so much WHAT comes into our lives, rather it is what we CHOOSE to do with it.
Me... I choose to live. So for to be, or not to be... I'd have to choose 'to be' overall. I choose to be here. I might as well enjoy it!

"To be" is the ultimate aim of most spiritual types, and even some enlightened religious types. It isn't a choice, alas, as most people default to "not be" and even though they know that "being" is the state they should attain, they fail to do so due to ego etc.
To me, your question reads like this: be a billionaire or homeless: which would you be? Everyone would be a billionaire but it's just not that easy, is it!

To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them. To die: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache, and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: aye, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveler returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pitch and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry
And lose the name of action.
Dunno!

Yes it has to be! My problem is I take such a time deciding whether it is "to be" or not 'to be'. A typical Libra Trait.... indecision.
I would like be nobler in my mind and to live up to my name, be bold and daring and not give a toss about anything..except for my three daughters whom the Romans later killed.
