Normal babies do not sit up by 3 months, it is more like 5-8. If he hates tummy time, don't make him do it. Carrying him in a sling will do much more to help his development. There are some cultures where baby doesn't even touch the ground for 6 months or so, yet they all develop normally.
My son hated tummy time and he walked at 10 months.
let your babe develop at his own pace. They are only little for a short while.

First of all baby's develope at different rates, which I'm sure you've heard. They also don't like being on their tummies. I've heard you can get down on their level and lay there and keep them entertained, but what works for my son is laying on my chest. I lay on the bed or couch propped up and put him belly down on top of me and he will raise his head up and look at me. I aslo gradually quit supporting his neck and as i did he pick up more and more of the slack. He can hold his head up for long periods of time and can sit breifly. He just turned 2 months old on Oct 30. Good Luck!!

Don't stress about it. Every baby does things at their own pace. I have two children and a step son, none of them enjoyed tummy time. They preferred to play either sitting up or on their backs. They did enjoy sleeping on their tummies though, so everyone is different. It is frustrating for your baby to be on its stomach because he doesn't have the strength yet to push up and see everything. Just keep him happy and be interactive with him throughout the day and he will make progress on his own. If you are ever seriously worried ask your physician, but there is nothing wrong with no tummy time yet. Plus, four weeks is a long time to a baby. Just a month and a half ago my baby couldn't walk, and now he runs. Realize he will do things on his own at his own pace, and try not to compare him to other children. It will only make you worry when there is no need to worry.
another opion:
No matter what you read about babies developments, every child is different. Just because one is not doing something by a certain month does not mean that he/she will not be doing it in a couple of weeks.
My son did not like tummy time at first, but we kept trying it every once in a while and he eventually took to it.
However, if as time goes on you see that your child's development is majorly lacking, you need to talk to the pediactrician about it.
I don't think that we started tummy time until he was at least 2 months old. So, I don't know what our son would've done with tummy time at 7 weeks. He may feel frustrated because he can't really move at 7 weeks old. Just keep trying it. You might try to put a pillow or boppy under him. He may just be uncomfortable on the floor on his tummy. Good luck to you and enjoy this time with him!

The first answerer is right. Babies do not normally sit up at 3 months. I also saw a baby on a magazine who was only a few months old, but had about 2 feet of hair (wig!). Magazines are not real life. My daughter HATED tummy time too. She would not lay on her tummy no matter what. She developed in every other way, normally. Eventually, she started ROLLING everywhere, lol. She loved it, and I was afraid she would never crawl, but of course, she did, and was walking right after her first b-day. Shes now 20 months old and doing fine and dandy although she never liked tummy time. For one thing, if ur baby has a sensitive tummy, tummy time might actually be painful.

Normal babies do not sit up at 3 months. My son hated tummy time as well. Keep trying. Tummy time is really so that they can get pressure off the back of their heads to stop a flat spot from forming...give him another few weeks.

Babies aren't supposed to be sitting up on their own at 3 mos. They are just figuring out rolling over around that age. They usually sit up more like 5 mos of age.
Get down on the floor with him and put a couple of toys or an unbreakable mirror in front of him. Don't push it at this age. Just 5 mins a few times of day if you can get him to tolerate that much. Talk to him, sing to him. etc. Eventually he'll get stronger and be willing to be on his tummy longer.

Don't worry so much about it, not all babies like it. I started by putting my baby on her tummy on me first while I was in bed. Then I started to do it while she was lying next to me on the couch or bed. Then the next thing I knew she was doing it all by herself. It takes time and patience. I know that the doctor might rush you a little, but some babies are just stubborn and need an extra push from mom to get going. Best of luck to both of you.

Communicate with your baby, let him communicate with you. If he doesn't like it, don't make him do it. Let a little time pass before you try again (days). You don't want him to 'learn' the habit that mom puts him on tummy, so he cries, then gets picked up. Next time you try, lie down with him and rub his back or pat his hand while talking to him, so he knows you're there. Good luck! Such a precious time!
