Simply stated - THEY DONT.

Unions don't help either party ... they just end up costing everyone more money .... WHY would anyone want to pay for union dues? Unions are just adding another layer and someone has to pay all of those salaries.

Now, I will say that Unions served their purpose in the 1960's .. but they are not needed in today's world.

Every employer provides a fair workplace these days for 2 reasons ... 1. It is too hard to find good, loyal help. and 2. There are laws in place today that require them to.

A union is an organization that negotiates for employers and employees they give protection to the employees for wrongful termination and makes it so if there are disagreements with employers the union member has someone to help them with a disagreement and arbittration althought there are downfalls to unions there are as many if not more downfalls to not having a union for example in a right to work state that you can be fired at will by your employer you might be thankful to have a union to file a grievence with so you may in some cases maintian your employment its always nice to know that there is someone on the side of the hard working man and the union dues i pay are 25 dollars a month so in my case it is well worth it considering me being a union member is getting me an 8% raise which will pay my unions dues for a year in about a month

I feel the first answer is valid also, I feel unions benefit themselves for an easy good paying job, forcing American Business to move overseas to get away from the Unions. So, the long term effects will be less jobs in America.

I'm not sure they help the employer in any way. They purport to help the employye by giving all employees one voice in dealings with the employer.
