I got a brand new laptop (HP Pavilion zd8000) about 1 1/2 years ago, and fully charged the battery the first time like they said. Since then, I've kept the laptop plugged in nearly all the time. Usually, I'm able to disconnect it for brief periods of time to do things like prints something out in the other room, etc. Now I unplug the laptop for about 30 seconds and the battery dies. Is there anything I can do to make it hold a charge again?

1. Disconnect the battery physically from the laptop - let it discharge for a few minutes.
2. Put the battery back into the laptop.
3. Boot up laptop and charge battery.
4. Shut down laptop and unplug adapter from wall and laptop.
5. Boot up laptop
If the battery does not maintain a charge at this point, it's probably a goner and needs replaced if you would like to do work independently of a power adapter.

Hi there! It happened to me too. I got a HP Presario 2100 series and after 1 year the battery acted the same way. I went to HP to ask help and they were selling me a new set of batteries for USD180.00 plus taxes. I was so dismayed and went away. My company gave me a Dell Latitude Notebook and never had a problem again. Bye-the-way it is best to unplug it if it's fully charged and drain it completely every month. Good luck.

Hi. Try a couple of complete discharge cycles. Leave it on overnight. The battery MAY recover.
