The Playstation 2 won't be considered outdated until about a year after the PS3. They will probably still make games for that system after the PS3 is released. The same thing happened with the original PS1 when the PS2 came out. If you are thinking about getting a PS2 then go for it because if history repeats itself, that PS3 will not be available anytime soon because of the holidays and everyone buying them up. The price point is a little high too at this point and let them work the kinks out of the system. PS2 all the way.

Not at all. It is normally not wise to buy electronics when they first release. Chances are they will have bugs, that need to be worked out. A few months down the line the problem free product will hit the stands. When the PS2 came out, the PS1 didn't phase out immediately. I seem to recall them still selling it for up to a year.

PS2 won't be outdated for awhile due to the price of PS3. A lot of people won't pay for it due to the hefty price.
