House Majority Leader John Boehner's call for critics to lay off Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld because the generals are responsible for the conduct of the war in Iraq has sparked outrage among Democrats.

In an interview Wednesday on CNN, Boehner said, "Let's not blame what's happening in Iraq on Rumsfeld."

CNN's Wolf Blitzer replied, "But he's in charge of the military."

"The fact is, the generals on the ground are in charge, and he works closely with them and the president," Boehner, an Ohio Republican, said.

Funny how the political hacks on the Republican side never mention the influential Republicans who have criticized this mess. There are a lot of Republicans who are furious at how Rumsfeld, Cheney and Bush have run the war. Senator Chuck Hagel, a decorated vet and the much respected Senator Warner of Virginia come to mind. These guys know what they're talking about.

You see I don't see the war in Iraq as screwed up as you do or your liberal friends do. My ex husband just got back from Iraq he is a soldier and he feels that he made a difference and says the Iraqi people he came in contact with during that year were very happy he was there. He saw a change for the better in every aspect of life in Iraq because America is fighting there. So the Republicans saying the Generals are running things think the Generals are doing a good job. No one is passing blame but maybe your side.

The troops see what is going on . They also believe in what they are doing. They Love Bush .And most are Republicans. There are a lot of good things happening in Iraq The liberal media wont show it.No way to spin Kerry's newest self inflicted wound.

I don't see how you couldn't see it like that...

can someone that says no... please explain to me how it's not?

they are clearly blaming the generals... and the generals are the highest level of the troops... they are part of the troops and leaders of the troops?

what really gets me is... I remember a year ago when retired generals spoke out about how Bush and Co. weren't paying any attention to what the generals were saying on the ground... now they are blaming them?

so I guess you can blame someone for your actions, even though that person told you not to do it?

dakota295: they asked him "is it rummys fault that things are bad".. he didn't say "it's not bad"... he said "it's the generals fault"... go watch the video, I'm sure it's on youtube...
