I think it means we live in a world where we decide on how we are from the media
and not we don't self evaluate ourselves

Means the media gets paid if they can always tell you what to think, and keep you from thinking for yourself.

if ppl look inside of themselves (introspection) they will have less time to do the opposite (watch tv).

It means "they" dont want you to think, because then they cant predict what you will do or say. They then have no power over you. If they dont know what entertainment, pain, suffering, torture or coercion will force you to do, they dont know where they are in the universe.
