I recently found out about the SEIT Profession. I want to go back to school in New York State to become one, but I am not sure what schools offer this type of specialized degree. Does anyone have any pointers as to where I can begin my search?

I am a seit. In order to get certified by NYS which you need in order to be a seit you need to have a masters in special education and specialize in early childhood.

You need to have a degree in Early Childhood Special Education. I do not know what part of NY you are in, but on Long Island there are two schools- Hofstra University and Adelphi University. I am currently enrolled at Adelphi and enjoy it. I suggest volunteering some time in a special education preschool program to see if you enjoy it. Good Luck!

It is very helpful to get a degree in Special Education at the Bachelors level. An idea is to go for the K-12 and the preschool certification courses. However, the best source is to locate your county's intermediate school district because they could have more information. Overall, the best source is talk to an admissions counselor and a special education professor at the local college to see what else needs to be done course wise.

You can also search for districts in your area that are searching for one and read the job descriptions and requirements for the position. Many districts post job openings online.

Talk to a councilor at a college and they will map it out for you.
You have to decide what you want to be highly qualified in, hearing, vision, PT, OT, speech or language.
