Ha ha ha! This is too funny!! I'm also five months pregnant and I have the worst cold ever!! It is terrible! I've had so much trouble sleeping. In fact, I was up at 2am drinking hot lemon water and watching tv. I cannot get any relief. I did go to the doc because I thought I might also have an ear infection. She told me I am just having allergies. I'm sorry, but this is not allergies. She gave me claritin which you can supposedly take during pregnancy but only if really, really needed. Well, since this is not allergies I don't want to take it. Plus, allergy meds make my heart race and I hate that. I've taken nothing except for cough drops. My nose and head is killing me.
I do have a med list that came from my OB. Here is what it says is approved for colds.
--sudafed: 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours
--robitussin (plain or DM): 1-2 tsp every 4 hours
--chloroseptic lozenges or spray: as directed on label
--cepacol lozenges: as directed on label
--vicks vapor rub: as directed on label
--normal saline drops: insert 2-3 drops into each nostril as needed
Here are some tips from me. These are things I've done to try to get some relief.
--really hot shower to help loosen the stuffiness, I use my kids vapor bath in the shower
--for sore throat (mine is terrible) warm salt gargle followed by a hot cup of lemon and honey. This helps but is temporary
--Sleep sitting up
--use the breathe right strips--these work pretty good for me when I'm trying to sleep
--If your sinuses hurt, as mine do, put a really hot cloth on the part of your face just under your eyes.
Good luck! I hope you and I both feel better soon!!

I have the same exact problem. I am 24 weeks and Im dying from this cold. I went to the doctors today and asked them what I could do about it. They said that I could take anything OTC that didnt have asprin or ibuprofin in it. So If it has acetaminophen your are perfectly fine. Like you cant take NyQuil or something like that.. but there are a ton of Cold medicines that have acetaminophen. Just take a look at the packages and as always, if you have any questions or concerns just ask your doctor. Your best bet is always consult with YOUR doctor. =) I hope I helped. Best wishes and feel better... I feel your pain!! *sniffle*

Not sure if this would help you or not, but I took Benadryl (diphenhydramine) while pregnant, on the advice of my OB/GYN. I had bad allergies and could not function without some help. Tavist is also safe in pregnancy. Whatever you take, just take the least amount that will still do you good. Hope you feel better soon!

Try calling a pharmacy and asking the pharmacist what the best OTC medicine would be to help alleviate your symptoms.

My doctor allowed me acetaminophen, pseudoephedrine, guafenisen--basically any otc cold medication EXCEPT those that contain aspirin, anti-inflammatories, or herbal remedies.

I worked in OB/GYN and Sudafed was always the suggestion for someone with a cold.
