Im gay, and in school, there is this person who bullies me everyday because of my orientation. This time he went to far by stealing my fundraiser candy and eating it in front of the class while I was crying. I tell the teachers but they dont seem to care. I now feel I need to get the law involved by sueing him for commiting a hate crime. He has physically and mentally assaulted me. I need help because I feel so suicidal right now. Now everyone makes fun of me, and I dont want to move again because I just moved here because of a bullying problem. Help me!

well first off...DO NOT commit suicide it will leave your family and friends very upset...there is absolutely no reason on Earth for anyone to want to commit suicide, especially because some idiots at school are teasing them...I would not take it to your teachers or principals because the retaliation from these morons might be quite severe...if indeed the guy did steal your fundraising stuff, then definitely get some authorities involved...if it was for a school fundraising campaign then unfortunately you will have to involve your principal...if it is for an outside charity then I would be led to believe that it could be treated as a theft and is probably a misdemeanor charge for the idiot...as for the hate crimes against you, I do not know if you would get support from your local police department, but you never know unless you ask...who knows maybe a sympathetic officer will go to the guys house and have a talk with him in front of his parents and if his father is not an idiot also then I am sure he will get a severe punishment...as for him assaulting you physically, yes, definitely report that to the police and he will be charged with a felony which will screw up his adult life...it is unfortunate that in today's world we still have people like this who are prejudice against race, sexual orientation, and pretty well everything else they are not (does that make sense?)...have you ever thought that maybe this guy who is doing this to you might also be gay, but not secure enough with his own sexuality to admit it?...remember bullying is usually caused by jealousy and ignorance, so maybe this guy is jealous of you because you have the strength to face the world as a young teenaged person who is gay...just a thought...then again he may just be an ignorant SOB who needs a good @ss kicking...how would that look if the big bully got his @ss whooped by a person who is gay...that would shatter his ego for sure and be the ultimate revenge for you...I hope you reconsider the whole suicide thing and unfortunately, you will probably be ridiculed by ignorant people all of your teenaged life for your sexual preference...just remember that they are not worth listening to...your friends will be your friends no matter what your sexual preference is and will support you the best they can...maybe ask them for some help or if you have any older friends who are gay, maybe they can help you with stories of ridicule they went through and how they dealt with it...just remember that not all straight people are idiots like the ones you have encountered and if none of the info above helps you out...kick him in the crotch and punch him in the mouth on the way down then run like hell...or just comment on how small his package is and watch him cry...lol...and stop running away from your problems...you have just as many rights as anyone else to go to a school or live in a community and don't let anyone tell you different...good luck

Print out your question, and take it to the Principal or Dean's office. Tell them that your civil rights are being violated, and you want to know what action they will take on your behalf. The bully is violating the Student Code of Conduct, as well, and should receive the appropriate disciplinary action from your school's administration. They have not only a legal, but a moral obligation to intervene on your behalf. At the very least, the School Resource Officer (a police officer) should be called in to the office while you are there, for you to fill out a report. Be prepared with names, dates, and details.

If, after speaking with an upper administrator at your school, you still do not feel that your best interests are being protected, call the ACLU (find their phone number either online or in the pink government pages of your phone book) and request their assistance. Also call the main School Board District Office and ask to speak with whoever is in charge of discrimination-related issues. If you STILL don't get any results (which I would doubt, at this point), call every single newspaper in your area and ask to speak to the reporter who handles schools and school-related crimes, and tell them your story. They will call your school to get a statement from the administration - which will let them know that you, and the violations against you, are to be taken very seriously.

Before I started typing this answer, I considered that your question might actually be a sad attempt at a "joke". If it IS, please - don't do this kind of thing again. Too many real people with real problems need help. If it ISN'T a joke, then please follow my suggestions and be prepared for things to remain difficult for awhile. Nonetheless, you are responsible - and capable - for standing up for yourself and demanding that you be allowed to receive your education in peace. YOU CAN DO THIS.

One last thing - and it's a biggie - PLEASE DO NOT HARM YOURSELF IN ANY WAY. You have too much value as a human being, more than even you realize at this moment in time. Things will not always be so rough, I promise you. Hang in there, I know it is difficult. You have much to offer, and the whole world lies ahead of you. Try your hardest to be strong. Call a gay support group in your area for more direct assistance. There are people there who have been through exactly what you are going through, and they can help you get through this, too. YOU MATTER.

If he stole your candy, that is a crime.
If the school did nothing about it, you should be able to sue the school for harassment. Many states also have bullying laws. Yours might.

Sadly I don't think having the bully arrested will change the over all picture for you. It may take that one buly out of the picture, but the rest of the kids will still be there.

It's discrimination! ALL schools have a no-bullying policy. Your teachers can get fired for the lack of response. Tell your parents and get an attorney! You don't deserve to be treated that way.

Yes it is a hate crime! Go to the police but also talk to the school councilors. There are a lot of haters in this world and a lot of them hate what they think is different or weird. When you get older you will find your place to fit in, so try to hang in. You don't deserve what is happening to you and I am sorry it is happening, but please talk to someone about all of this!

reported to the Adminstrators of your school. Have your parents come with you. If it doesn't help call the police. This is very low. It happened to me too when I was in school.

talk to the principal and let him know in no uncertain terms that if this continues, there will be a total class action lawsuit, and then ask him exactly what he intends to do about it because you are tired of screwing around and that if he doesnt do something youll be seeing him in court.
