My friend lives 20 minutes up the road we both have children and work, so we don't have too much time to see each other. One week she kept on ringing me and saying "we have to catch up, its been too long, I miss you" etc etc. I spent the night before telling my kids to go to bed nice and early as they were going to have a big day tomorrow, they were very excited. She then rings me the morning of and says "do you mind not coming over today as my sister in law wants to come over today". I was a little stunned as she was the one that persisted all week that we see each other. This was a few weeks ago now and i haven't contacted her and she hasn't called me. Should i just get over it and call her,or do you think that what she did was rude???

She was rude. The kids were all worked up and excited to go see her and she cancels at the last minute without giving THEM an explanation? Why couldn't her sister in law join in with you and the kids? I wouldn't even bother with her.

Of course what she did was rude, and what action or inaction you take is for you alone to decide. I myself go my way and if people like that get back in touch the subject will be talked about and a resolution found. After that, time and behaviour dictate which friend list they go on:1 the acquaintance list or 2 the friend list. Most times in my case they stay on number one, and that's fine with me, they just never know what they lost.

If you don't have too much time to see each other anyway, I'd let it go. It was a bit rude, but she probably didn't realize how you'd planned for the date. If you feel like seeing her again, call. If not, don't.

The first thing you typed was " my friend"
Yes get over it, things come up and things happen, people show up unexpectedly so what, she is by your words a FRIEND show her that you are her FRIEND and break the ice yourself, she probably feels the exact same way as you do call your FRIEND
geez this is very upsetting to me because it took someone to help me see the same thing and that was 15 years ago.

I don't think she was rude, she was plainly telling you that she has family coming over and she obviously didn't want you feeling left out while her and her sister in law were chatting away.

Your looking into this too deeply.

Yes and tell her. She sounds flaky too. Why did she cancel just because her sister-in-law was coming. What was wrong with having her and you over at the same time? Sounds flaky.

Maybe a family emergency came up and she couldn't talk to you about it. Try calling her. Someone has to make the first move.

i think for like a while u shouldn't talk to her cuz that was pretty rude. its sounds like a set up but i mite be rong. if it is a setup then just dont talk to her, say hi hello but dont be really close to her, she'll think that she can boss u around. and u dont want that.

Call her. It won't hurt you only a friendship that is already hurt if the results are negative.
