OKay I need some help with this problem. I have a bunch of these so if you just explain how you find the answer in 7th grade language please THANKS!! BTW @= squared. so r@= r squared.

8r@ + 2rs@ = 7r@s How do I simplify this problem?

8r@+2rs@+7r@s [ I think you have typed = in place of + by mistake] .When you want to simplify an algebric expression ,you should put together all terms having the same algebric variables for example if you want to simplify 2a-3b+6a+5b,you should first write this as 2a+6a-3b+5b and now add2a and 6a giving you 8a and -3b and +5b giving you +2b,The answer would be 8a +2b.please remember only similar algebric varibles can be added or subtracted .So when you add 12x with 5y ,as you cannot add them conventionally, your answer would be 12x+5y.Another method is that the algebric variable are not totally similar but part of them are simila. In that case it is best to take the part similar variable as common from each term while simplifyiung.in the problem you have given though none of the variables ar similar each of them contains "r" so we shall simplify it in this way r(8r+2s@+7rs) and that is the answer. If i have failed to make you understand anything, you may send an e-mail to me at sarkartpas2005@yahoo.com and I shall be too happy to explain the process again

In the future use ^2 to indicate squared, or ^3 to indicate cubed, etc. It is common terminology and will help if you come here to ask questions if you use symbols that people are used to. :-)

So, you have 8r^2 + 2rs^2 = 7r^2s

You can move the 7r^2s to the other side, and factor out an r, but that's about all you can do to simplify:

8r^2 + 2rs^2 = 7r^2s

8r^2 + 2rs^2 - 7r^2s = 0

r(8r + 2s^2 - 7rs) = 0

Hope that helped a little!

("Combining like terms" is usually good advice, but there's no like terms in your specific problem to combine)

1. r is a common variable in all three terms of this equation, so factor it out:

r(8r+2s@) = r(7rs)

2. Divide both sides of the equation by r to remove it from both sides; the r in the numerator and the denominator will cancel each other out:

r(8r+2s@) /r = r(7rs)/r

3. You are left with:
8r+2s@ = 7rs

4. If you wish to further simplify the left side of the equation, factor out the common 2 in the 8r and 2s@terms:
2(4r+s@) = 7rs
