I'm conducting a research project in epidemiology, and I wanted to know what health problems or mental, physical, or social behaviors would be interesting to research among high schoolers (example, the correlation between sleep tendency and performance among high school athletes).

I'm a high school teacher, and I think it would be interesting to look at eating disorders among high school athletes, particularly wrestlers. There is tremendous pressure on these young men to maintain their weight and ranking. There has been enough written and research regarding young women, but I think that school-sanctioned disordered eating patterns in wrestlers and football players needs to be investigated.

Okay, I was a 2004 high school graduate, but some suggested topics might be:
--Perhaps the correlation between the stresses placed upon students and their smoking/drug habits
--The correlation between grades and those who were sexually active. [My school had a problem with sex, including the fact that they had it during school hours in the bathrooms and the elevator]
--The affects of alternative lifestyles (or preceived alternative lifestyles) and academic and/or social standing within the school [In my school, of the top 10 students in my grade, 4 of us were either known or suspected to be homosexual or bisexual)
--Corellation of grades of students who take the so called 'easy' electives to those who take the harder route (be it one of the advanced electives or filling in the electives with extra core classes)

i got to mcquaid jesuit high school and it is a college prep school. personally, i find myself oversleeping and drowzy in my first 3 periods because of sleep depravation. i get, on average, 4 hours of homework a night. i also have a part time job. so fitting in my work and school in one day is pretty tough. if they want us to work harder, i think they should start with giving us a little less homework that way we can pay attention in class the following day. sometimes schools just expect way too much from kids.
