When i look at my system under control panel it says it running at 1.8ghz. Shouldnt be faster than that??

the speed is 1.8 ghz only
but it is equivalent to intel 3ghz processors.
some people thinking Amd has less speed so intel is faster.even though AMD has low clock speed its enough for high speed since it uses DCA architecture (in built mmy controller)
Also intel L2 cahe(2 MB) greater than amd L2 cache(512 kb-1 mb).
when it comes to L1cache(faster twice than L2) amd has more mmy than intel.
thats why lower clock speed is enough for it to be faster than intel though having greater clock speed.
since intel provides L2 cache double the time as AMD it is high cost than AMD.

No, that is its speed. Remember that AMDs do more work at a lower speed than Intels, in fact the 3000+ means that it is equivalent to a 3GHz Intel even though it only runs at 1.8Ghz.

no not really remember amd istn't the same as intel and it has a slower clock speed. that doesn't determine how fast the pc is gonna run. like mac looks like its slower cuz it has a 2.4ghz but its actually running faster. so don't worry about that. i would look at your ram speed, and hard drive rpm. also you buffer size on the hd.

If it says 1.8 gHZ, then I'm afraid that's the speed it runs at =(
My computer runs at 1.6 gHZ and I'm fine with it, you don't need top of the line computers to do your daily work. Now if you're a serious gamer or something... That's a different story...

It should usually be running aroud 7.0ghz give or take...
Although AMD did make a 8.0ghz but I'm not sure if that one has been released yet.

The AMD Athlon 2100 is 1.7GHz
