Fill out applications for places that are hiring, make a resume, and call the places you have already applied to. The worst thing they can say is they aren't hiring anymore. It also helps to fill the application out on the spot and ask to speak to a manager if one is available. Never apply at food places around noon or during any places busy periods.

If you don't have much experience or you have lots of gaps it helps to emphasize your personal skill in a resume before you give your selected job history. That's what they taught us to do in a class for homeless people seeking employment. It is really effective. Also never underestimate the cover letter. As silly as they are they work well.

You didn't say what the job was - some employers won't look at a person w/o experience or appropriate education. Think of things you have accomplished in your life that would be relevant to the job and how you would use that to be a good employee - then talk to the manager and convince them that you are worth an interview.

Do some volunteer work for a couple of months. Either in a non profit sector or local libraries. You could also get letters of recommendations from your friends that own businesses. Go to job fairs, and never give up.
