Friends were getting guy to buy them beer. I knew what they were doing but was not directly involoved. Exchanged no money never touched beer. Guy puts beer in trunk of friends car then the cop comes up and it all starts. Because I was in the passenger seat of the car and there was alcohol in the trunk I got a MIP charge.
I do not even remember if I was sitting in the car when the cop came up or if I got in afterwords.

I'm 16 will be 17 in 8 days. Tho they wrote I was 17 on citation. What should I do is it worth getting a lawyer? Should I say guilty or not guilty.

To everyone saying get a lawyer I know having a lawyer is always better then not. But I'm asking you if its worth the cost all those future paychecks of mine to get one.

Say not guilty and explain the situation. If that does not work, work on a plea deal that will get it expunge after 6 month or a year of not getting into trouble. Yes get a lawyer

I would get a lawyer. it would be your best and only chance of getting off completely. If you have no prior convictions or past criminal record, then the state attorneys office has no reason to persue charges. It would be a waste of there time. Worst case would be find and probation and maybe community service. I believe you are looking at a misdemeanor so its not crucial. By getting a lawyer, the lawyer can deal directly with the state attorney to cut you a plea bargain if it gets to that point. The attorney could also use some intimidation tactics to get u off. Its basically pay the fine and plea guilty...or pay an attorney and no fine. They could be close to the same amount of $$$. I say go with the lawyer and keep the record clean.

Doesn't matter if you weren't directly involved or didn't exchange money or touched the beer. If you were a passenger in a car that had alcohol and the police saw you around it and you're a minor, your pretty much screwed. Plead guilty and take the punishment like a man. You're not getting out of it.

Don't worry about it. Plead not guilty and explain the circumstances. You'll probably get off, and even if you don't your record will be in the juvenile division and therefore sealed when you turn 18.
