specifically, their belief that to increase the total happiness in the world, old people, disabled infants, and terminally ill people should be killed or euthanized because of their seeming lack of contribution to society?
personally, i think some disabled people contribute more than the nutjobs that want to kill them.

I'd would love to hear the opinion on this matter of a utilitarian who either got old and senile, was crippled by an unfortunate accident, or had a beautiful but otherwise mentally diminished child. THAT is the answer I'd love to read here.
People are always willing to sacrifice other folks for 'the good of society'. It's just another word, and if you think about it, it does not differ much from the philicide smugly hidden behind the bellicose attitude of many civilizations, always willing to spill someone else's blood in order to save this or that concept, be it freedom, democracy, honor, etc.

Bye, very much enjoyed your question.

happiness is a point of view. mandatory drug injections will increase the total happiness in the world too. i guess it could be argued either way, old people, disabled infants and terminally ill people stimulate the economy and contribute to technological growth. on the other hand, population control is inevitable.

I don't like Utilitarianism at all. It's all very well to sacrifice certain people for the good of others but not so nice when you are the one being sacrificed.

From a purely utilitarian view it makes sense, but from a humanitarian view, it sucks!
