I've got a W on my transcript, and it's no big deal. It won't affect your GPA, it just counts as a neutral grade. Talk to your prof though before you make a final decision. Make sure there's nothing you can do to attempt to bring it up. They're usually willing to help you. But if you feel there is just nothing you can do, like you won't understand the material, it's WAAAAY better to have a W on your transcripts than an F. An F really highly, highly affects your GPA, trust me, I know. So of the two options, failing or taking the W, the latter is most definitly the better way to go. One or two W's won't seriously hurt you, but as the guy before said, just don't make a habit of it. And if you feel really bad about dropping it, you can always pick up a summer course to make up for the lost credit.

If you're not past the date when you would get an automatic "w" on your transcript, that might be the best option. You may want to check your school's policy, but most universities don't count a "w" in the grade point average. If you are past the date for the automatic "w" then you will generally have a passing or failing grade reported; if you're failing the course, it may be best to simply hang in there and do your best - at the very least, if you have to re-take the course, you will have that much more experience. Also, talk to your professor - s/he may be able to help, and that's what you're paying for, after all.

Dont worry I got a W the first semester after I transferred. I talked with my dean who said one W is fine, just dont make a habit out of doing it or else it may decrease your chances in getting into grad schools (if you were condiring). I did the same thing, did horrible on an exam and got a W. I'm a senior now and its as though that W isnt even tehre

I would check with financial aid. In order to get financial aid you must COMPLETE so many of the hours you attempt or you won't get it the next semester. If you think you will fail it, I would drop. You don't want an F.it takes forever to bring that up. If you get a D..it 's not great but you can retake it and bring it up if it's within the first 60 hours of credit.

no i think it's a R to re-take the class, if you have to take the class again try a different professor.... a R is better then a F b/c it has nothing to do with your GPA
