The voice you hear inside your own head when you talk isn't what other people hear -- the tape recorder is a more accurate version of what you really sound like (to others).
That's because when you talk, sound bounces around in your nasal passages and ear passages, coming at your ear both externally and internally. The internal path is more biased towards lower tones, so you "sound" like you have a deeper voice to yourself than to others. Tape recorders only get the external path, so your voice sounds higher, less rich, and a bit tinny -- but that's how everybody else hears you :)

Actually your voice sound correct on the recorder ! It's because your own voice sounds different in your own head because of where your ears are and where your mouth is,plus different vibrations.

OMG i always wondered the same thing!! I hate my voice when I hear it on an answering machine or something, i always sound so nasally and stuffy.. I like the way i hear my voice.

Anyway.. i guess its because thats how you really sound. You hear yourself differently than other people hear you.

Imagine you heard a guitar sound from inside the middle hole of the guitar... it would sound much more different than hearing it as you always do (outside the guitar).... same thing happens here. You hear your voice "inside"...

Its funny that everyone says "I hate how my voice sounds on recordings". I guess they don't realise that that's how everyone else in the world hears them.

have you ever noticed that everyone elses voice sounds the same? I think that may be your actual voice, it just sounds different to you. Just an uneducated guess.

Your voice is different from what you hear and what other people hear. Recording yourself can give an accurate demostration of your voice
