Dark they were
and golden eyed
Identities lost
dreams will die
Settlers from earth they once were
til the harsh Martian clime took its toll.

Unsure
nervous they came to this place,
Looked with eager eyes at the rough landscape,
Change the names of our ancient domains
then tremble in fear in the
darkness.

The one called Bittering had a brave heart
tried to bring back a
lost art.
Convince the others to resist he wanted to
Only he realized what was
Happen
ing.

Our sun
A merciless ball of fire
Burned their skin til its
brown as earth.
Eyes that shimmer like stunning sapphires
And are filled with joyful mirth.

Five years later
the rocket returns
to rescue their poor colonists.
They find
naught but an empty town
Remains of a once great empire.

Hidden in the purple hills
In houses of blue marble majesty
dark skinned people are living
in peace.
Blissfully ignorant of reality.
