The historical homeland of the Palestians was originally what is now Jordan. When the UN formed Israel after WWII they offered to also create a Palestian state the Palestians rejected as their goal was to transform Jordan. They failed and at this point became refugees after Jordan kicked them out. The other Arab countries convinced them to leave Jordan alone and promised their support if they instead would overthrow Israel. As recently as 1998 THey have been offered official recognition if they would abide by the peace accords however for some reason they cannot. Every few years the Israelis pull back a little more in hopes of appeasing the Palestians and furthering peace. Most recently forcibly removing Israeli citizens from long established settlements in the West Bank. However it never seems to have any effect on people who want all or nothing today. Some blame the Israelis some blame the Palestians. If you look at history this has always been a violent region. Another place to look is at the role that European colonism played in recent events when France, Spain and France gave up their claims to the middle east in the late 1800 they created countries that had never before existed. This was not so bad except they did not give any thought to how lines where drawn prior to coloniaism. Many of the problems Iraq come from the fact that you basically have what was historically four different countries thrown together and these people have no desire to work together and no historical basis to believe they can.

Let's see, where to start? When the UN partitioned Western Palestine (Eastern Palestine had already been given to the Hashemites as a consolation prize for losing Arabia to the Saudis), it was to be 2 states. The Jews accepted, the Arabs responded by trying to destroy Israel. After the armistice, Jordan & Egypt occupied the areas then under Arab control. There was no talk of a new Arab state for the next 19 years till Israel captured Gaza, Judea & Samaria (West Bank) in a defensive war. Since then, Israel has offered to give the "Palestinians" their own state on disputed land. Each time the Arab's response has been more terror.
Somehow, many people think that this is somehow Israel's fault.

What do you think the Gaza Strip is? Israel pulled out of there completely, leaving the Palistinians to run that place independantly, without interference. Next day, rockets are flying across the border into Israeli towns, targeting civilians.

Palistine historically is an area, primarily in Jordan and Israel. It has never been a NATION in the modern sense of the word.

The political and militant sectors of the Hamas party hate each other almost as much as they hate Israel. They can't govern themsleves, much less a nation. Until they can accomplish that feat, they will not get much more than lip service from their supposed allies, and recognition as a nation, from non-allied nations.

United states and its allies wanted to have a presence in that area and so when they had the chance they put there the jews as if that land was theirs and as a matter of fact it wasnt. They helped them developed a huge army, how would otherwise have it so quickly. But on the other hand there was not a defined state consolidated there at the time so the opposition was poor but anyway didnt seem to be so important for taking it into account, at least to the so called "allies", lets say US and friends... I dont say this is good nor bad but since when do jews fight??? they never did a thing agains germans, not even try?? and now they are so belligerent. But anyway western cultures and muslims always went into trouble together and borderlines have changed many times through history, we might even see the day when muslims conquer our culture just hope that if that time comes in this life they will be more civilized than now.

When Israel was given its state, Palestinians gambled that they and other Arab nations could take on the Israeli army. They lost, and when they wanted to go back to the seperated states, Israel said "screw you."
