have a look at the foods your eating maybe your eating foods that are causing your blood sugar to drop rapidly which causes people to feel tired. ( ie sugary foods) try to eat more food that are low GI like porridge wholemeal bread/toast & pasta ect , think slow burning foods!

Also you might be havaing restless sleep during the night which is just as bad as having no sleep at all as you miss out on your REM sleep!

Is this new or ongoing?
Four things that strike me:
1. Depression? (go get assessed for it).
2. Thyroid. That is the BIGGEST, CLASSIC thyroid symptom.
3. sleep apnea (you may need a specialist or a sleep study b/c not enough air at night?).
4. Low Iron, get your iron and Ferritin levels checked (iron stores).

Make an appt. with your doctor for a TSH thyroid test. Then hear the results and go from there. If they say you're fine, then you need to go to a new doctor or even an endocrinologist and get checked out. If you have low thryoid it makes you tired even if you slept all day and it GIVEs you depression, too. Do some reading on it! Don't let doctors shrug you off either! Thyroid and low iron go hand in hand, too. More rare things are diabetes and heart disease that makes someone tired but doesn't sound like it.

I agree with a lot of the thoughts in the previous threads. But, I often have this same problem and it might be a combination of some things. Maybe you are streched too thin at the moment, have you maybe bitten off more than you can chew? Also, when I am feeling down, like somewhat depressed, I find that I sleep alot, because then I don't have to face my feelings. You could possibly be anemic, do you get enough iron from your food (ie: do you eat enough meat, fish, beans?) Also, it could be that you really aren't tired at all. Maybe you are lonely. I know when I feel like I am not getting to spend enough time being happy, then I am not emotionally stimulated, so then I just want to spend time sleeping. Good luck to you, hope you beat this soon!

Maybe you are not eatting properly. Stress can also make you tired. Also, some people need more than 8 hours of sleep. Some people need 9-10 hours per night.

How long has this been happening? If it's been happening for a long time go have the doctor check your thyroid level. I know I was tired all the time and couldn't gain any weight, and always had a low fever. Apparently I had overactive thyroid. So I would get that checked soon if it dosen't get better. Oh and you might try turning you mattress over, that might help too.

I think its the time of the year. Vitamin D levels get depleted because of the lack of sunshine which in turn makes you want to go into hibernation mode. Everyone that I have spoken to has been saying the same, me included. Drink lots of water and take a vitamin D supplement. Also try not to stay in because it will actually make you feel worse. You need daylight.

Maybe the 8 hours you are getting is not a peaceful deep sleep. You should try to spend about an hour relaxing before bed time, try to clear your mind before you lay down to sleep. Good luck.

your body shifts into different modes when you sleep...light sleep, rem sleep, etc..

You could be suffering from a sleep disorder that is causing you to stay in one level and not actually relax. Try sleeping in a room without a tv, not exercising before bed and don't eat anything 3hours before you go to sleep. If it doesn't get better go to your doctor and they will run a sleep study on you to see what's wrong.

Sounds like insomnia to me.

ANd insomnia is not classified by how much you sleep, but by what you do when not sleeping. Insomnia is any sleep disorder, really. If you sleep too much, that's insomnia. Too little, insomnia. If you sleep just right but are still tired, could be insomnia.
