I keep seeing horror movies where someone will rip someone else's face off and wear it as a mask. It happened in The Silence of the Lambs, and in The Devil's Rejects.

I don't know why, maybe it's just too horrible to be true, but I smell b.s. on this being something that you could do.

Let me put it this way...is it possible to rip someone's face off and then wear it as a mask minutes later as happens in these movies?

Well, with current advances in plastic surgery and skin grafting, I wouldn't say it is not within the realm of possibility. I read miracles stories in papers all the time of accident survivors getting their entire faces rebuilt from their own skin or flesh from dead people who have given their consent.

A film where face-wearing plays a huge role in the plot is John Woo's action blockbuster Face/Off. You've GOT to watch it if you're interested in this possibility. The scene where Nicolas Cage and John Travolta switch faces may be enough to induce you to puke. But the amusing role reversal and riveting action sequences more than make up for it!

Ed Gein did it. That is where the ideas came from for Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Silence of The Lambs.

Not without it looking as silly as it sounds. You can wear anything that you can attach or place on your face as a "mask". Look at all the silly $100+ sunglasses out there!

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original)

Of course, Leatherface's mask was not from one person, it was sewn together from skin of several people.
