The doctor said a lot of times u can't see the embryo @ 5 weeks pregnant. I have to go back in 2 weeks to see if he can see anything. He said that if nothing was there still (meaning no embryo) that i had what is known as a blighted ovum. Is anyone familiar with this? Could this be what is wrong. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

I was around 5 or 6 weeks pregnant when i had my first ultrasound. I was horrified when the picture i got from the technician was just a picture of an empty sac. I thought i had what was called a blighted ovum. I called my doctor's office, and they arranged another ultrasound at 7 weeks. It turned out the baby was fine and perfectly healthy!

They explained what had probably happened was the baby was so small and basically hiding from the ultrasound. They also grow a lot in the first trimester. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Good luck to you!

I had an ultrasound done at 6 weeks (3 weeks ago) and you could barely see the thing. I wouldnt have thought it was anything but my doc insisted it was the baby. Now I had an ultrasound yesterday (9 weeks) and the baby looked like a little teddy bear with arms and legs and all. They grow fast. Good luck.

You are most likely fine, as well as your baby... it can take up to 8 weeks to see a heart beat in a little black blob that will become your baby. If he thought it was anything wrong he would see you sooner than 2 weeks. Babies are amazing things, and you will see it explode in size in the 2 weeks, as cells double, and double and double, building the little human.... Good luck and i wish no bad things come between you and a healthy baby.
