Depends on the dictator. Many actually do better for the people than what existed before them. The consistent problem is no matter what they do, good or bad, people of the country become at best dependent on someone to do for them, or at worst enslaved and totally ripped off, as well as murdered, raped, well sort of like the worst of anarchy. At best what happens when it comes to an end? The worst of anarchy?

A dictatorship is not really a bad thing, if the person leading is capable and fair. Problems arise when the dictator is not able to resist the temptation of "absolute power."
Given that one person controls a country (regardless of size or wealth) that one person can do anything so long as the population allows is. Even the most moral individual could eventually be corrupted by this.
Ability is another issue. So, your leader has great charisma - do they know how to run a country? Can they make sound economic, environmental, ethical etc. decisions?
Finally, what happens if the dictator dies (or is unable to lead for whatever reason)? Who takes over next? Just because someone is the leader's child or most trusted advisor does not mean they will do the same job as their predecessor.

The leader (dictator) only knows what his coterie is informing him. Like any other human being he will always get informed that he is most loved person in the country and all. But when the things go so bad they will advise to embark war on some external powers (now a days America seems a good target as that is the most powerful country on earth now).
Dictatorship limits the human need for freedom of expression so it is an overall negative system.

Well, among other things, the leader can impose a war against the will of the majority, only because he wished to do so

We are living in one. Check FISA regulations, and torture. In both cases Dubya has said as President he has the right to override them at will, and he has.

Loss of ones freedom to speak as one wants to on any subject; loss of freedom to follow any religion; loss of the right to vote for whomever one desires. Loss of ones freedoms.
